Tales Till Ramadan at Birmingham Rep
29 Feb – 2 Mar 2024

Like the Ramadan crescent, sincerity can be elusive.

In this one woman show, Eleanor Martin goes in search of sincerity through a mesmerising collection of Muslim heritage stories from Rumi, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Palestine and Pakistan. Join Khayaal Theatre for this cultural odyssey and spiritual quest in preparation for Ramadan. Running time is 90 minutes. A space for prayer will be provided before and after the show.

Worth of a Pearl
King Mahmud devises a test of loyalty and devotion for select high-ranking officials of his royal court involving a lustrous pearl. A tale by Rumi.

Quest for Knowledge
On applying to become a student of a sage, a youth finds himself summarily charged with a seemingly simple task. The task becomes a toilsome trial of initiation that profoundly transforms his perception of what it means to learn and know. A tale from Uzbekistan.

The Doctor's Helper

A young man resorts to artifice in order to gain a menial position with a physician of great repute from the House of Wisdom. But at what cost will he keep that position? And what will the physician do to save his own reputation? A psychological thriller from Iraq.

The Sultan and the Robbers

A fun and unassumingly mystical folktale from Pakistan wherein a disguised sultan has an eventful night with a band of robbers, one of whom has a special talent that casts light on the nature of felicitous vision.

A Promise Fulfilled

Cast out for yielding to compassion, Hassan bereft and bedraggled is befriended by another homeless boy whose resolve and knowledge of signs and metaphors opens doors to fortune and fulfilment. A folktale from Palestine.

It was brilliant and captivating! I want to see it all over again this instant. An incredible experience.
